Germany Thrash Scotland 5-1 in Euro 2024 Opener

Havertz Stars as Hosts Make Perfect Start

Germany made a blistering start to their Euro 2024 campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Scotland in Munich.

Kai Havertz was the star of the show, scoring twice and setting up another as the hosts put Scotland to the sword. The Chelsea forward opened the scoring from the spot in the 12th minute after Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon brought down Jamal Musiala. Havertz then turned provider for Timo Werner, who doubled Germany's lead in the 25th minute.

Scotland pulled a goal back through Lyndon Dykes just before the break, but Germany restored their two-goal advantage when Havertz fired home his second of the night in the 56th minute. Leroy Sane and Youssoufa Moukoko added further goals in the closing stages to seal a resounding win for Germany.

The victory was Germany's biggest-ever in a European Championship match and sets them up perfectly for their next game against France on Tuesday. Scotland, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly ahead of their match against Croatia on the same day.
